Located in the south of Holland, Leiden is known for its secular architecture and for its university, which is the oldest in the country.
I stayed 2 days, but it’s enough to explore the place.
If you like walks, Leiden is the right place to go! There are many routes where you can go hiking. The city also has its own university garden, Hortus Botanicus, which is absolutely beautiful! There are various varieties of plants, trees and flowers from all over the world and it is pure feast for the eyes.
In addition, there are a number of museums with fantastic collections of art (De Lakenhal), history (National Museum of Antiquities), nature (Naturalis), physics (Boerhaave Museum) and the body human (Corpus).
The Rijn square is the ideal place to enjoy the pleasant and festive atmosphere of the city. The Rhine and its canals give a hyper-romantic side to this place. Personally I walked around the city, but you also have the possible to make a boat tour.
At about 30 minutes from Leiden, there is the small town of Noordwijk, where I enjoyed the beach, but without bathing in the sea because the water temperature was not good.
I plan to go back because I really enjoyed my stay in this small town.
